Market Maker Surveillance Report. TPX, RMBS, FSL, EXTR, HSOL, CRMB, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Friday, April
April 20, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3615 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3565 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2234 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Tempur Pedic International Inc (NYSE:TPX), RAMBUS INC (NASDAQ:RMBS), Freescale Semiconductor Inc (NYSE:FSL), Extreme Networks Inc (NASDAQ:EXTR), HANWHA SOLARONE CO -SPON ADR (NASDAQ:HSOL), 57th Street General Acquisition (OTCBB:CRMB). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction TPX $-17.240 -20.59% 3,858,574 25.79% 4,399,803 29.41% -541,229 -314 RMBS $-0.740 -13.21% 1,425,833 44.80% 1,756,029 55.17% -330,196 -4,462 FSL $-1.790 -12.54% 1,403,027 23.48% 1,820,988 30.47% -417,961 -2,335 EXTR $-0.560 -12.88% 2,872,979 47.09% 3,065,316 50.24% -192,337 -3,435 HSOL $-0.170 -13.39% 258,574 25.89% 740,099 74.11% -481,525 -28,325 CRMB $-0.530 -17.97% 36,639 44.29% 44,281 53.53% -7,642 -144Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows TPX with a dollar loss Friday of $-17.24000 and a Friction Factor of -314 shares. That means that it only took 314 more shares of selling than buying to move TPX lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
