April 13, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3553 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1727 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4217 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. COINSTAR, INC. (NASDAQ:CSTR), ALTRIA GROUP INC (NYSE:MO), Johnson Controls Inc (NYSE:JCI), Vale SA (NYSE:VALE), CBS CORP-CLASS B NON VOTING (NYSE:CBS), (NASDAQ:ERT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  CSTR $4.480 7.31% 3,765,879 46.70% 4,606,871 57.13% -840,992 Abnormal
  MO $0.200 0.64% 2,782,071 21.23% 6,680,411 50.98% -3,898,340 Abnormal
  JCI $0.740 2.32% 3,130,098 27.15% 4,037,112 35.01% -907,014 Abnormal
  VALE $0.100 0.42% 5,447,999 21.05% 6,792,698 26.25% -1,344,699 Abnormal
  CBS $0.330 1.03% 1,873,944 27.60% 2,603,856 38.35% -729,912 Abnormal
  ERT $0.010 0.13% 497,751 18.41% 2,180,971 80.67% -1,683,220 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows CSTR with 840,992 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $4.48000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
