Market Maker Surveillance Report. XRIT, HPQ, AA, HOV, ERT, SEFE, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Tuesday, April 10th 2012
April 10, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3180 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1249 companies with positive Friction Factors and 5404 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. X-RITE INC (NASDAQ:XRIT), HEWLETT-PACKARD COMPANY (NYSE:HPQ), ALCOA INC. (NYSE:AA), HOVNANIAN ENTERPRISES-A (NYSE:HOV), (NASDAQ:ERT), (OTCBB:SEFE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XRIT $1.540 38.50% 1,441,808 33.54% 2,848,871 66.27% -1,407,063 Abnormal HPQ $0.220 0.95% 6,671,666 25.86% 8,340,671 32.33% -1,669,005 Abnormal AA $0.170 1.77% 12,328,171 28.10% 15,167,179 34.57% -2,839,008 Abnormal HOV $0.010 0.51% 1,576,326 29.70% 1,897,740 35.75% -321,414 Abnormal ERT $0.060 0.75% 5,283,399 44.58% 6,568,857 55.42% -1,285,458 Abnormal SEFE $0.075 6.15% 1,612,285 41.62% 2,034,526 52.52% -422,241 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XRIT with 1,407,063 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $1.54000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
