March 8, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3546 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4129 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1810 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Thursday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. THRESHOLD PHARMACEUTICALS (NASDAQ:THLD), Microvision Inc (NASDAQ:MVIS), Mueller Water Products Inc (NYSE:MWA), VERSO PAPER CORP (NYSE:VRS), Tearlab Corp (NASDAQ:TEAR), (OTC:OREO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  THLD $1.430 30.04% 4,251,302 54.90% 3,478,368 44.92% 772,934 5,405
  MVIS $1.000 42.92% 662,436 52.44% 582,790 46.13% 79,646 796
  MWA $0.600 21.05% 2,077,719 33.36% 2,040,553 32.76% 37,166 619
  VRS $0.820 67.21% 1,220,089 34.01% 1,122,823 31.30% 97,266 1,186
  TEAR $0.590 26.11% 401,909 58.44% 283,870 41.28% 118,039 2,001
  OREO $0.310 28.70% 165,417 44.63% 110,551 29.83% 54,866 1,770
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows THLD with a dollar gain Thursday of $1.43000 and a Friction Factor of 5,405 shares. That means that it only took 5,405 more shares of buying than selling to move THLD higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
