Market Maker Surveillance Report. MVIS, FST, MTSN, NFX, FSR, GRO, Losing Stocks With Lowest Price Friction For Wednesday, Febr
February 22, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3651 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2396 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3469 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Microvision Inc (NASDAQ:MVIS), FOREST OIL CORP (NYSE:FST), MATTSON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MTSN), NEWFIELD EXPLORATION CO (NYSE:NFX), FLAGSTONE REINSURANCE HOLDIN (NYSE:FSR), Agria Corp (NYSE:GRO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MVIS $-0.540 -12.16% 85,033 36.53% 145,719 62.60% -60,686 -1,124 FST $-1.710 -11.84% 3,522,040 29.36% 3,617,713 30.16% -95,673 -559 MTSN $-0.470 -14.73% 715,174 39.23% 1,091,620 59.87% -376,446 -8,009 NFX $-5.370 -12.71% 3,280,687 28.55% 3,893,460 33.88% -612,773 -1,141 FSR $-1.210 -13.15% 38,460 30.19% 47,711 37.45% -9,251 -76 GRO $-0.210 -14.89% 199,436 29.24% 328,982 48.23% -129,546 -6,169Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MVIS with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-0.54000 and a Friction Factor of -1,124 shares. That means that it only took 1,124 more shares of selling than buying to move MVIS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
