February 21, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3893 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3054 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3238 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. TESSERA TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:TSRA), NOVABAY PHARMACEUTICALS INC (AMEX:NBY), CHELSEA THERAPEUTICS INTERNATIONAL, LTD. (NASDAQ:CHTP), FreeSeas Inc. - Common Stock (NASDAQ:FREE), NEWLEAD HOLDINGS LTD (NASDAQ:NEWL), CODEXIS, INCORPORATION (NASDAQ:CDXS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction TSRA $-2.930 -14.66% 873,737 45.02% 1,057,998 54.51% -184,261 -629 NBY $-0.220 -15.28% 31,880 22.29% 91,238 63.80% -59,358 -2,698 CHTP $-0.690 -20.60% 6,273,791 48.99% 6,510,933 50.84% -237,142 -3,437 FREE $-0.250 -14.62% 205,179 42.23% 280,293 57.69% -75,114 -3,005 NEWL $-0.270 -19.01% 33,538 46.91% 37,958 53.09% -4,420 -164 CDXS $-0.880 -19.21% 1,042,924 43.82% 1,290,562 54.23% -247,638 -2,814Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows TSRA with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-2.93000 and a Friction Factor of -629 shares. That means that it only took 629 more shares of selling than buying to move TSRA lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
