February 17, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3915 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3239 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2539 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. EMCORE CORP (NASDAQ:EMKR), POWERWAVE TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:PWAV), K-SWISS INC. (NASDAQ:KSWS), ARTHROCARE CORP (NASDAQ:ARTC), Cbeyond Inc (NASDAQ:CBEY), Realpage Incorporated (NASDAQ:RP). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     EMKR $-0.640 -10.79% 251,830 43.20% 330,725 56.73% -78,895 -1,233
     PWAV $-0.160 -12.50% 900,728 39.13% 1,400,659 60.85% -499,931 -31,246
     KSWS $-0.430 -11.53% 405,109 40.36% 595,176 59.29% -190,067 -4,420
     ARTC $-5.710 -18.55% 1,274,884 45.56% 1,461,404 52.22% -186,520 -327
     CBEY $-0.950 -10.40% 152,723 40.32% 200,445 52.92% -47,722 -502
     RP $-3.820 -15.80% 1,900,343 45.28% 2,180,582 51.96% -280,239 -734
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows EMKR with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.64000 and a Friction Factor of -1,233 shares. That means that it only took 1,233 more shares of selling than buying to move EMKR lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
