Market Maker Surveillance Report. MDMN, NLY, DRYS, S, AKRX, QQQ, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Monday, February 13th 201
February 13, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3666 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4071 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2156 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. MEDINAH MINERALS INC (OTC:MDMN), Annaly Capital Management Inc (NYSE:NLY), DRYSHIPS INC (NASDAQ:DRYS), SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S), AKORN INC (NASDAQ:AKRX), (NASDAQ:QQQ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MDMN $0.017 12.00% 6,773,987 42.30% 9,239,427 57.70% -2,465,440 Abnormal NLY $0.080 0.47% 4,309,410 28.55% 7,947,770 52.65% -3,638,360 Abnormal DRYS $0.330 11.00% 10,522,383 45.82% 12,438,122 54.16% -1,915,739 Abnormal S $0.010 0.44% 15,706,576 32.96% 19,177,740 40.25% -3,471,164 Abnormal AKRX $0.300 2.40% 2,121,488 17.14% 10,240,506 82.72% -8,119,018 Abnormal QQQ $0.650 1.03% 17,007,652 46.47% 19,075,965 52.13% -2,068,313 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MDMN with 2,465,440 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.01740. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
