February 10, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3734 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1805 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4137 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. Statoil ASA (NYSE:STO), AMGEN INC (NASDAQ:AMGN), Telefon AB L M Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), ALCATEL-LUCENT-SPONSORED ADR (NYSE:ALU), E*TRADE FINANCIAL CORP (NASDAQ:ETFC), SUCCESSFACTORS INC (NASDAQ:SFSF). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     STO $0.360 1.35% 1,123,208 15.05% 3,451,909 46.24% -2,328,701 Abnormal
     AMGN $0.240 0.36% 2,269,383 44.16% 2,864,880 55.75% -595,497 Abnormal
     ERIC $0.090 0.95% 5,827,721 40.20% 8,622,635 59.48% -2,794,914 Abnormal
     ALU $0.240 12.37% 42,129,718 34.50% 44,397,349 36.36% -2,267,631 Abnormal
     ETFC $0.010 0.11% 2,013,214 42.36% 2,739,883 57.64% -726,669 Abnormal
     SFSF $0.020 0.05% 571,724 24.49% 1,283,168 54.96% -711,444 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows STO with 2,328,701 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.36000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
