February 9, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3756 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2911 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3108 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Pizza Inn Inc (NASDAQ:PZZI), ARRAY BIOPHARMA INC (NASDAQ:ARRY), INTL FCSTONE INC (NASDAQ:INTL), IROBOT CORPORATION (NASDAQ:IRBT), A123 SYSTEMS, INCORPORATION (NASDAQ:AONE), Synthesis Energy Systems Inc (NASDAQ:SYMX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction PZZI $-1.480 -23.91% 329,631 48.77% 331,454 49.04% -1,823 -12 ARRY $-0.540 -16.86% 3,818,236 46.66% 4,363,900 53.33% -545,664 -10,105 INTL $-3.970 -14.98% 129,801 43.47% 161,614 54.12% -31,813 -80 IRBT $-12.950 -33.81% 3,413,031 47.69% 3,692,299 51.59% -279,268 -216 AONE $-0.450 -18.12% 5,669,624 42.98% 7,522,191 57.02% -1,852,567 -41,168 SYMX $-0.330 -18.44% 210,748 43.00% 277,573 56.63% -66,825 -2,025Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows PZZI with a dollar loss Thursday of $-1.48000 and a Friction Factor of -12 shares. That means that it only took 12 more shares of selling than buying to move PZZI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
