Market Maker Surveillance Report. KO, GILD, S, ERIC, WU, TNK, Bearishly Biased Price Friction For Wednesday, February 8th 2012
February 8, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3930 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3120 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2796 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. COCA-COLA CO/THE (NYSE:KO), GILEAD SCIENCES, INC. (NASDAQ:GILD), SPRINT NEXTEL CORP (NYSE:S), Telefon AB L M Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), WESTERN UNION COMPANY (THE) (NYSE:WU), TEEKAY TANKERS LTD-CLASS A (NYSE:TNK). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction KO $-0.220 -0.32% 3,184,235 38.98% 1,937,601 23.72% 1,246,634 Abnormal GILD $-0.810 -1.46% 6,378,813 54.20% 5,340,611 45.37% 1,038,202 Abnormal S $-0.050 -2.04% 43,906,239 35.07% 42,447,792 33.90% 1,458,447 Abnormal ERIC $-0.130 -1.35% 9,365,722 46.91% 5,995,755 30.03% 3,369,967 Abnormal WU $-2.000 -10.15% 11,969,797 32.00% 10,844,817 28.99% 1,124,980 Abnormal TNK $-0.540 -11.92% 4,929,920 37.25% 3,908,329 29.53% 1,021,591 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows KO with 1,246,634 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.22000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
