January 31, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3777 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3281 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2667 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. EXPEDITORS INTL WASH INC (NASDAQ:EXPD), MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MU), JPMORGAN CHASE & CO. (NYSE:JPM), VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC (NYSE:VZ), Vale SA (NYSE:VALE), TWO HARBORS INVESTMENT CORP (NYSE:TWO). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     EXPD $0.140 0.31% 1,129,995 30.75% 3,959,573 107.76% -2,829,578 Abnormal
     MU $0.030 0.42% 9,963,503 45.84% 12,762,855 58.72% -2,799,352 Abnormal
     JPM $0.290 0.78% 7,831,416 26.84% 11,218,747 38.45% -3,387,331 Abnormal
     VZ $0.050 0.13% 3,559,085 24.55% 6,106,801 42.12% -2,547,716 Abnormal
     VALE $0.740 2.98% 7,432,638 23.99% 12,761,977 41.19% -5,329,339 Abnormal
     TWO $0.120 1.22% 2,209,904 26.32% 5,103,598 60.77% -2,893,694 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows EXPD with 2,829,578 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.14000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
