Market Maker Surveillance Report. NVAX, HAL, VZ, AA, MTU, QQQ, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, January 27th 2012
January 27, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3481 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3734 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2270 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. NOVAVAX INC (NASDAQ:NVAX), HALLIBURTON CO (NYSE:HAL), VERIZON COMMUNICATIONS INC (NYSE:VZ), ALCOA INC. (NYSE:AA), MITSUBISHI UFJ FINL GRP-ADR (NYSE:MTU), (NASDAQ:QQQ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NVAX $0.080 6.07% 1,602,439 31.50% 3,483,301 68.48% -1,880,862 Abnormal HAL $1.040 2.88% 7,013,228 28.70% 8,477,007 34.69% -1,463,779 Abnormal VZ $0.050 0.13% 4,612,561 27.06% 6,687,895 39.23% -2,075,334 Abnormal AA $0.070 0.68% 5,498,086 25.90% 6,942,530 32.70% -1,444,444 Abnormal MTU $0.020 0.44% 614,604 11.05% 2,140,573 38.49% -1,525,969 Abnormal QQQ $0.110 0.18% 18,644,551 47.98% 20,090,275 51.70% -1,445,724 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NVAX with 1,880,862 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.08000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
