January 20, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3688 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3462 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2424 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), APOLLO GLOBAL MANAGEMENT - A (NYSE:APO), MORGAN STANLEY (NYSE:MS), WELLS FARGO & CO (NYSE:WFC), ADVANCED MICRO DEVICES, INC. (NYSE:AMD), DCT INDUSTRIAL TRUST INC (NYSE:DCT). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction PFE $0.080 0.37% 8,668,720 21.78% 13,995,402 35.16% -5,326,682 Abnormal APO $0.210 1.42% 143,413 6.37% 1,973,038 87.59% -1,829,625 Abnormal MS $0.120 0.66% 8,440,033 30.25% 9,992,582 35.81% -1,552,549 Abnormal WFC $0.420 1.39% 8,233,384 22.14% 12,122,196 32.60% -3,888,812 Abnormal AMD $0.200 3.22% 7,527,818 26.23% 9,279,854 32.34% -1,752,036 Abnormal DCT $0.040 0.74% 1,271,459 22.23% 3,288,467 57.48% -2,017,008 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows PFE with 5,326,682 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.08000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
