November 4, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4163 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2385 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3216 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. SIRIUS XM RADIO INC (NASDAQ:SIRI), AVON PRODUCTS INC (NYSE:AVP), OPENWAVE SYSTEMS INC (NASDAQ:OPWV), VALERO ENERGY CORP (NYSE:VLO), XEROX CORP (NYSE:XRX), REGIONS FINANCIAL CORP (NYSE:RF). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SIRI $0.040 2.42% 32,679,187 49.31% 33,514,413 50.57% -835,226 Abnormal AVP $0.240 1.31% 1,952,561 16.01% 7,810,562 64.03% -5,858,001 Abnormal OPWV $0.170 10.83% 2,640,183 37.45% 4,175,870 59.24% -1,535,687 Abnormal VLO $0.340 1.33% 2,671,936 26.99% 3,511,794 35.47% -839,858 Abnormal XRX $0.090 1.04% 7,139,147 38.14% 8,320,459 44.45% -1,181,312 Abnormal RF $0.030 0.75% 7,071,061 27.18% 8,931,701 34.33% -1,860,640 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SIRI with 835,226 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.04000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
