Market Maker Surveillance Report. NETL, HCBK, USB, YHOO, AGNC, GCVRZ, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, September
September 22, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3809 companies with "abnormal" market making, 771 companies with positive Friction Factors and 6239 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. NETLOGIC MICROSYSTEMS INC (NASDAQ:NETL), HUDSON CITY BANCORP INC (NASDAQ:HCBK), U.S. BANCORP (NYSE:USB), YAHOO! INC (NASDAQ:YHOO), AMERICAN CAPITAL AGENCY CORP (NASDAQ:AGNC), (NASDAQ:GCVRZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NETL $0.080 0.17% 2,329,103 39.90% 3,506,884 60.07% -1,177,781 Abnormal HCBK $0.050 0.92% 4,156,603 44.58% 5,144,920 55.18% -988,317 Abnormal USB $0.140 0.61% 6,299,504 24.50% 7,622,300 29.65% -1,322,796 Abnormal YHOO $0.030 0.21% 27,422,079 45.40% 28,839,013 47.75% -1,416,934 Abnormal AGNC $0.350 1.29% 4,338,232 46.66% 4,899,713 52.70% -561,481 Abnormal GCVRZ $0.030 2.86% 1,170,683 28.47% 2,937,244 71.43% -1,766,561 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NETL with 1,177,781 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.08000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
