MDA to help US Air Force minimize risk to soldiers in the field
RICHMOND, BC, Sept. 14, 2011 /CNW/ - MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. ([ TSX: MDA ]), a provider of essential information solutions, announced today that its U.S. operation, MDA Information Systems, Inc. has signed a contract valued at US$1.8 million with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory to provide advanced technology solutions for surveying unprepared runways in remote areas.
MDA's advanced technology solutions will allow the Air Force to perform critical missions in unprepared landing zones with greater speed and efficiency. MDA will deliver five portable, lightweight systems that will allow an operator to rapidly measure ground hardness to determine, among other things, the ability of the soil to support the weight of landing aircraft.
'Building on our experience with systems for space exploration, we continue to expand our expertise into products for military markets,' said Chris Thayer, the general manager responsible for this business at MDA.
