April 28, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 2695 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2845 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2197 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. ISHARES MSCI BRAZIL (NYSE:EWZ), APPLIED MATERIALS INC (NASDAQ:AMAT), FLEXTRONICS INTL LTD (NASDAQ:FLEX), CVS CAREMARK CORP (NYSE:CVS), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT), AKAMAI TECHNOLOGIES INC (NASDAQ:AKAM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction EWZ $-1.020 -1.31% 5,850,917 29.55% 4,381,297 22.13% 1,469,620 Abnormal AMAT $-0.240 -1.50% 11,886,958 52.57% 10,365,889 45.84% 1,521,069 Abnormal FLEX $-0.310 -4.13% 8,772,151 54.34% 7,353,148 45.55% 1,419,003 Abnormal CVS $-0.130 -0.35% 3,600,019 45.63% 2,279,584 28.89% 1,320,435 Abnormal MSFT $-0.250 -0.95% 42,175,630 55.76% 33,316,739 44.04% 8,858,891 Abnormal AKAM $-6.070 -14.81% 15,512,885 54.10% 13,037,558 45.47% 2,475,327 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows EWZ with 1,469,620 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-1.02000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
