Market Maker Surveillance Report. WMT, TYC, BPOP, NSM, THC, SNY, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Tuesday, April 12th 2011
April 12, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2385 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1462 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4143 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. WAL-MART STORES INC (NYSE:WMT), TYCO INTERNATIONAL LTD (NYSE:TYC), POPULAR INC (NASDAQ:BPOP), NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR CORP (NYSE:NSM), TENET HEALTHCARE CORP (NYSE:THC), SANOFI-AVENTIS-ADR (NYSE:SNY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction WMT $0.750 1.42% 5,472,590 40.87% 6,374,557 47.60% -901,967 Abnormal TYC $3.770 7.74% 13,744,484 41.78% 14,691,944 44.66% -947,460 Abnormal BPOP $0.020 0.65% 5,423,889 45.15% 6,565,483 54.65% -1,141,594 Abnormal NSM $0.050 0.21% 4,669,069 36.05% 7,333,195 56.62% -2,664,126 Abnormal THC $0.120 1.86% 13,623,310 46.09% 15,937,198 53.91% -2,313,888 Abnormal SNY $0.020 0.05% 1,652,809 27.35% 3,808,841 63.02% -2,156,032 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows WMT with 901,967 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.75000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
