April 1, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2530 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3271 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1989 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS INC (NYSE:KKD), ASCENT SOLAR TECHNOLOGIES (NASDAQ:ASTI), CLEAN DIESEL TECHNOLOGIES (NASDAQ:CDTI), XYRATEX LTD (NASDAQ:XRTX), LUNA INNOVATIONS INC (NASDAQ:LUNA), SUBAYE INC (NASDAQ:SBAY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     KKD $-1.480 -21.02% 2,811,642 47.68% 3,081,631 52.26% -269,989 -1,824
     ASTI $-0.730 -25.44% 1,220,705 48.98% 1,270,767 50.98% -50,062 -686
     CDTI $-2.000 -23.26% 103,731 40.63% 150,993 59.14% -47,262 -236
     XRTX $-1.640 -14.70% 1,508,364 47.96% 1,580,486 50.25% -72,122 -440
     LUNA $-0.370 -14.98% 309,474 41.65% 430,540 57.94% -121,066 -3,272
     SBAY $-0.360 -13.33% 116,489 44.74% 137,733 52.90% -21,244 -590
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows KKD with a dollar loss Friday of $-1.48000 and a Friction Factor of -1,824 shares. That means that it only took 1,824 more shares of selling than buying to move KKD lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
