March 16, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 2272 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1418 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4260 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. FINANCIAL SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLF), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), SIRIUS XM RADIO INC (NASDAQ:SIRI), EMC CORP/MASS (NYSE:EMC), ISHARES MSCI JAPAN INDEX FD (NYSE:EWJ). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XLF $-0.320 -1.98% 83,861,457 51.68% 77,992,102 48.06% 5,869,355 Abnormal EEM $-0.940 -2.06% 56,820,171 52.87% 49,168,581 45.75% 7,651,590 Abnormal PFE $-0.340 -1.70% 29,357,720 42.66% 27,054,606 39.31% 2,303,114 Abnormal SIRI $-0.020 -1.14% 35,776,109 53.89% 30,593,238 46.09% 5,182,871 Abnormal EMC $-0.680 -2.62% 15,550,757 48.08% 12,949,670 40.03% 2,601,087 Abnormal EWJ $-0.380 -3.79% 122,983,653 50.51% 120,482,055 49.49% 2,501,598 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLF with 5,869,355 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.32000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
