February 28, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 2763 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3185 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2187 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. UTILITIES SELECT SECTOR SPDR (NYSE:XLU), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), GENERAL ELECTRIC CO (NYSE:GE), MYLAN INC (NASDAQ:MYL), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     XLU $0.340 1.08% 4,961,890 40.35% 10,479,578 85.23% -5,517,688 Abnormal
     EEM $0.340 0.75% 22,991,110 38.83% 36,455,388 61.57% -13,464,278 Abnormal
     PFE $0.420 2.23% 18,625,474 38.82% 23,479,147 48.93% -4,853,673 Abnormal
     GE $0.150 0.72% 15,616,081 37.92% 21,294,942 51.72% -5,678,861 Abnormal
     MYL $0.260 1.15% 4,895,966 25.17% 14,299,799 73.50% -9,403,833 Abnormal
     MSFT $0.100 0.36% 23,016,913 46.20% 30,809,300 61.84% -7,792,387 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Monday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows XLU with 5,517,688 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.34000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
