February 25, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2300 companies with "abnormal" market making, 4149 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1381 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), EXXON MOBIL CORP (NYSE:XOM), PROSHARES ULTRASHORT S&P500 (NYSE:SDS), HOME DEPOT INC (NYSE:HD), CORNING INC (NYSE:GLW), MICROSOFT CORP (NASDAQ:MSFT). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction PFE $-0.090 -0.46% 15,498,290 50.18% 12,844,305 41.58% 2,653,985 Abnormal XOM $-0.630 -0.73% 10,191,170 46.32% 9,012,657 40.96% 1,178,513 Abnormal SDS $-0.440 -2.02% 16,583,280 52.54% 15,376,860 48.71% 1,206,420 Abnormal HD $-0.100 -0.28% 5,022,412 51.86% 3,919,576 40.48% 1,102,836 Abnormal GLW $-0.200 -0.88% 6,688,975 49.42% 5,205,905 38.46% 1,483,070 Abnormal MSFT $-0.070 -0.26% 30,026,530 54.37% 25,164,785 45.57% 4,861,745 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Friday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows PFE with 2,653,985 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.09000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
