February 22, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 2064 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1098 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4768 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. TECHNOLOGY SELECT SECT SPDR (NYSE:XLK), PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MU), PROLOGIS (NYSE:PLD), ISHARES S&P MIDCAP 400 (NYSE:IJH), DIREXION DAILY FIN BULL 3X (NYSE:FAS). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XLK $-0.650 -2.39% 12,320,753 55.16% 10,363,339 46.39% 1,957,414 Abnormal PFE $-0.290 -1.51% 28,253,030 45.89% 24,094,754 39.14% 4,158,276 Abnormal MU $-0.790 -6.76% 31,001,112 53.24% 26,819,495 46.06% 4,181,617 Abnormal PLD $-0.200 -1.26% 4,351,688 57.78% 2,528,488 33.57% 1,823,200 Abnormal IJH $-2.180 -2.22% 2,171,367 82.91% 447,544 17.09% 1,723,823 Abnormal FAS $-2.810 -8.20% 19,850,558 52.32% 18,191,516 47.95% 1,659,042 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows XLK with 1,957,414 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.65000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
