January 21, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 2771 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2595 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2388 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Friday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. SPDR S&P HOMEBUILDERS ETF (NYSE:XHB), QWEST COMMUNICATIONS INTL (NYSE:Q), YAHOO! INC (NASDAQ:YHOO), PROGRESSIVE CORP (NYSE:PGR), VANGUARD EMERGING MARKET ETF (NYSE:VWO), ISHARES MSCI EMERGING MKT IN (NYSE:EEM). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction XHB $-0.180 -1.01% 3,388,334 24.11% 8,367,363 59.53% -4,979,029 -276,613 Q $-0.090 -1.29% 11,749,669 39.73% 15,115,102 51.11% -3,365,433 -373,937 YHOO $-0.270 -1.66% 8,932,002 36.63% 15,416,059 63.23% -6,484,057 -240,150 PGR $-0.220 -1.09% 2,514,411 17.11% 11,779,628 80.17% -9,265,217 -421,146 VWO $-0.090 -0.18% 5,608,746 42.74% 7,655,518 58.34% -2,046,772 -227,419 EEM $-0.510 -1.09% 37,761,080 46.14% 41,713,892 50.97% -3,952,812 -77,506
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows EEM down $-0.51000 with a Friction Factor of -77,506 and a Net Volume of -3,952,812. That means that it takes 77,506 more shares of selling than buying to drop EEM by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
