Britain's gas storage levels 'concerningly low' after cold snap

Britain's gas storage levels are alarmingly low following a recent cold snap, raising concerns about potential energy shortages this winter. The UK's gas storage capacity is significantly less than that of other European countries, with only enough to cover about 12 days of peak winter demand. This situation has been exacerbated by the closure of the Rough storage facility, which once provided substantial capacity. Experts warn that without adequate storage, the UK could face price spikes and supply issues, especially if there are further cold spells or disruptions in gas supply from Europe or LNG imports. The government and energy companies are urged to take immediate action to bolster storage and ensure energy security.
