Market Maker Surveillance Report. IWM, SPY, S, CTL, GDX, HPE, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Friday, December 23rd 2016
December 23, 2016 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 5297 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3820 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2321 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (NYSE:IWM), SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE:SPY), Johnson Lambert & Co. (NYSE:S), CenturyLink Inc (NYSE:CTL), Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE:GDX), Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co. (NYSE:HPE). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction IWM $0.670 0.01% 3,757,659 22.05% 6,393,779 37.52% -2,636,120 Abnormal SPY $0.350 0.00% 9,695,800 26.51% 12,356,457 33.78% -2,660,657 Abnormal S $0.020 0.00% 1,630,318 20.98% 4,545,299 58.48% -2,914,981 Abnormal CTL $0.190 0.01% 1,525,171 23.42% 3,449,916 52.98% -1,924,745 Abnormal GDX $0.270 0.01% 19,405,517 33.34% 28,414,355 48.82% -9,008,838 Abnormal HPE $0.140 0.01% 1,032,620 17.55% 3,343,698 56.81% -2,311,078 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows IWM with 2,636,120 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.67000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
