February 25, 2013 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 3487 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1527 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4506 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Merck & Co Inc (NYSE:MRK), Companhia Siderurgica Nacional (NYSE:SID), Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO), BP PLC (OTC:BPAQF), Vale SA (NYSE:VALE), Affymax Inc (NASDAQ:AFFY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
  MRK $-0.120 -0.28% 6,298,147 32.92% 4,900,420 25.62% 1,397,727 Abnormal
  SID $-0.010 -0.20% 3,193,158 43.06% 1,467,011 19.78% 1,726,147 Abnormal
  TTWO $-0.020 -0.13% 1,962,847 75.10% 650,725 24.90% 1,312,122 Abnormal
  BPAQF $-0.106 -1.54% 3,900,000 72.19% 1,502,229 27.81% 2,397,771 Abnormal
  VALE $-0.120 -0.66% 5,748,976 29.40% 4,539,804 23.22% 1,209,172 Abnormal
  AFFY $-14.080 -85.23% 32,343,953 53.44% 28,079,493 46.39% 4,264,460 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows MRK with 1,397,727 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.12000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
