September 10, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Monday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Monday there were 4029 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2386 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3070 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C), EXXON MOBIL CORPORATION (NYSE:XOM), Cemex SAB de CV (NYSE:CX), Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PPHM), Dow Chemical Co (NYSE:DOW), NII Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:NIHD). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction C $-0.240 -0.75% 11,155,563 34.90% 9,932,223 31.07% 1,223,340 Abnormal XOM $-0.440 -0.49% 3,720,415 34.75% 2,630,417 24.57% 1,089,998 Abnormal CX $-0.160 -1.98% 3,536,325 40.07% 2,029,474 22.99% 1,506,851 Abnormal PPHM $-0.200 -4.44% 12,064,881 54.33% 10,051,354 45.27% 2,013,527 Abnormal DOW $-0.030 -0.10% 3,586,096 45.86% 1,757,414 22.48% 1,828,682 Abnormal NIHD $-0.430 -6.28% 6,541,488 62.22% 3,958,491 37.65% 2,582,997 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Monday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows C with 1,223,340 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.24000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
