September 5, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 4042 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2195 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3083 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. DELTA AIR LINES INC (NYSE:DAL), MGIC Investment Corp (NYSE:MTG), ON Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ:ONNN), Dow Chemical Co (NYSE:DOW), Cal Dive International Inc (NYSE:DVR), (OTC:PRTN). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction DAL $0.320 3.74% 3,864,538 30.37% 5,140,417 40.40% -1,275,879 Abnormal MTG $0.010 0.88% 991,031 15.74% 2,364,149 37.55% -1,373,118 Abnormal ONNN $0.020 0.33% 3,190,937 42.17% 4,363,778 57.66% -1,172,841 Abnormal DOW $0.020 0.07% 3,435,158 26.09% 6,206,000 47.13% -2,770,842 Abnormal DVR $0.060 3.97% 437,443 15.93% 1,922,882 70.01% -1,485,439 Abnormal PRTN $0.053 21.85% 11,151,699 42.36% 15,163,131 57.60% -4,011,432 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Wednesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows DAL with 1,275,879 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.32000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
