August 24, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 4011 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3065 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2197 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the highest net sell volume on Friday and lowest negative price Friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Memsic Inc (NASDAQ:MEMS), Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK), Hewlett-Packard Co (NYSE:HPQ), A123 Systems Inc (NASDAQ:AONE), Telefon AB L M Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), PUNCHLINE ENTERTAINMENT INC (OTC:PUNL). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MEMS $-0.050 -3.23% 493,696 12.19% 5,852,013 144.50% -5,358,317 -1,071,663 NOK $-0.140 -4.38% 19,971,834 33.60% 22,786,341 38.34% -2,814,507 -201,036 HPQ $-0.040 -0.20% 6,369,149 28.81% 8,553,168 38.69% -2,184,019 -546,005 AONE $-0.020 -6.30% 4,657,087 40.74% 6,806,525 59.54% -2,149,438 -1,074,719 ERIC $-0.160 -1.63% 1,562,816 29.91% 3,661,456 70.09% -2,098,640 -131,165 PUNL $-0.014 -1.46% 542,375 21.07% 1,408,200 54.71% -865,825 -618,446Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have low price friction combined with more selling than buying (negative Net Volume) in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MEMS down $-0.05000 with a Friction Factor of -1,071,663 and a Net Volume of -5,358,317. That means that it takes 1,071,663 more shares of selling than buying to drop MEMS by one penny. On Monday the Market Makers allowed the stock to move down on heavier selling than buying (low negative friction).
