August 22, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 4178 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2111 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3210 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Wednesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Wet Seal Inc (NASDAQ:WTSLA), GUESS? Inc (NYSE:GES), Ferrellgas Partners LP (NYSE:FGP), Peregrine Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PPHM), BioMimetic Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BMTI), Clearwire Corp (NASDAQ:CLWR). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction WTSLA $-0.340 -10.98% 1,942,286 41.49% 2,704,526 57.77% -762,240 -22,419 GES $-4.900 -14.80% 1,480,872 36.76% 1,521,027 37.76% -40,155 -82 FGP $-2.390 -10.98% 311,518 30.86% 404,583 40.08% -93,065 -389 PPHM $-0.480 -17.20% 2,893,604 46.76% 3,293,910 53.22% -400,306 -8,340 BMTI $-0.360 -9.07% 42,451 36.90% 71,203 61.89% -28,752 -799 CLWR $-0.170 -9.54% 9,287,106 45.89% 10,949,389 54.11% -1,662,283 -97,781Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows WTSLA with a dollar loss Wednesday of $-0.34000 and a Friction Factor of -22,419 shares. That means that it only took 22,419 more shares of selling than buying to move WTSLA lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
