July 24, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3685 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1465 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4109 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage gain per share Tuesday and low price friction (bullish). This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices rose faster with less Friction. Ultrapetrol (Bahamas) Ltd (NASDAQ:ULTR), HealthStream Inc (NASDAQ:HSTM), Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners Inc (NASDAQ:CPRX), Entertainment Gaming Asia Inc (AMEX:EGT), Data Group Inc (NYSE:DGI), KiOR Inc (NASDAQ:KIOR). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction ULTR $0.310 36.90% 207,444 59.99% 138,341 40.01% 69,103 2,229 HSTM $3.290 14.14% 350,372 53.06% 305,800 46.31% 44,572 135 CPRX $0.250 22.73% 2,174,320 50.87% 2,087,044 48.83% 87,276 3,491 EGT $0.410 17.01% 67,776 47.38% 29,770 20.81% 38,006 927 DGI $2.460 16.36% 1,227,691 34.79% 1,218,562 34.53% 9,129 37 KIOR $0.980 13.39% 229,138 53.89% 191,591 45.06% 37,547 383Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net buy volumes (buy volume, sell volume) and low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows ULTR with a dollar gain Tuesday of $0.31000 and a Friction Factor of 2,229 shares. That means that it only took 2,229 more shares of buying than selling to move ULTR higher by one penny. The Market Makers are currently allowing the stock to rise quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and positive market direction can drive prices higher much faster than normal.
