June 15, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3725 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3293 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2158 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Microvision Inc (NASDAQ:MVIS), AAR CORP (NYSE:AIR), GOLDEN STAR RESOURCES LTD (AMEX:GSS), SYNUTRA INTERNATIONAL INC (NASDAQ:SYUT), AUGUSTA RESOURCE CORP (AMEX:AZC), BIODEL INC (NASDAQ:BIOD). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction MVIS $-0.660 -22.07% 2,234,319 44.45% 2,708,215 53.87% -473,896 -7,180 AIR $-1.220 -10.52% 691,360 30.04% 944,800 41.05% -253,440 -2,077 GSS $-0.150 -12.00% 3,531,990 29.82% 4,710,315 39.77% -1,178,325 -78,555 SYUT $-1.120 -19.93% 50,618 25.45% 148,162 74.50% -97,544 -871 AZC $-0.230 -11.50% 47,872 22.66% 56,930 26.94% -9,058 -394 BIOD $-0.280 -9.69% 36,614 36.86% 61,718 62.13% -25,104 -897Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows MVIS with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.66000 and a Friction Factor of -7,180 shares. That means that it only took 7,180 more shares of selling than buying to move MVIS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
