2012 Pierre Peladeau Bursaries: Three New Businesses Share $100,000

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - May 9, 2012) - For the 13th consecutive year, Quebecor is rewarding the best business projects entered in the Pierre Péladeau Bursaries competition. Three young Québec entrepreneurs will share $100,000 to help them realize their dream and build the Québec of the future.

The 2012 First Pierre Péladeau Bursary, worth $50,000, has been awarded to Groupe Betavib, an industrial maintenance company founded by engineer Béchir Badri, a graduate of the École de technologie supérieure (ETS). Betavib develops monitoring systems for dynamic equipment analysis to achieve maintenance cost reductions and prevention.

The 2012 Second Pierre Péladeau Bursary, worth $30,000, goes to Therbec Énergie, founded by François-Mathieu Potvin, who holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Université Laval. Therbec is planning to market a cutting-edge system to boost output at geothermal plants. The revolutionary thermal process can be introduced at existing power plants.

The 2012 Third Pierre Péladeau Bursary, worth $20,000, has been awarded to Iboolab, a developer of educational games for mobile devices and the Web. Co-founders François Boucher-Genesse and Jean-Guillaume Dumont, both Master's students at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), aim to help kids learn math and science.

"To secure our future prosperity and the viability of the collective choices we have made, we need more new businesses in Québec," said Pierre Karl Péladeau, President and CEO of Quebecor. "We at Quebecor are therefore very proud to support our homegrown entrepreneurs through the Pierre Péladeau Bursaries. Our young entrepreneurs have no lack of drive and innovative talent.
