March 6, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3395 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1074 companies with positive Friction Factors and 5264 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. Quicksilver Resources Inc (NYSE:KWK), SUPERVALU INC (NYSE:SVU), ANALOG DEVICES INC (NYSE:ADI), Korn/Ferry International (NYSE:KFY), MEMC ELECTRONIC MATERIALS (NYSE:WFR), STAPLES INC (NASDAQ:SPLS). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction KWK $0.070 1.40% 1,561,378 29.95% 2,206,864 42.33% -645,486 Abnormal SVU $0.220 3.61% 2,723,315 30.35% 3,399,262 37.88% -675,947 Abnormal ADI $0.120 0.32% 971,698 27.58% 1,272,408 36.12% -300,710 Abnormal KFY $0.130 0.82% 118,383 15.30% 412,429 53.30% -294,046 Abnormal WFR $0.070 1.93% 2,821,615 31.33% 3,159,875 35.08% -338,260 Abnormal SPLS $0.300 1.99% 7,031,546 45.94% 8,215,806 53.68% -1,184,260 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Tuesday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows KWK with 645,486 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.07000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
