Market Maker Surveillance Report. PFE, BAC, BG, GCI, MTU, QQQ, Bullishly Biased Price Friction For Thursday, March 1st 2012
March 1, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3925 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3384 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2360 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. PFIZER INC (NYSE:PFE), BANK OF AMERICA CORPORATION (NYSE:BAC), BUNGE LTD (NYSE:BG), GANNETT CO (NYSE:GCI), MITSUBISHI UFJ FINL GRP-ADR (NYSE:MTU), (NASDAQ:QQQ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction PFE $0.440 2.06% 12,237,825 25.80% 13,775,777 29.04% -1,537,952 Abnormal BAC $0.150 1.88% 60,930,855 31.07% 68,130,537 34.74% -7,199,682 Abnormal BG $0.050 0.07% 222,767 26.80% 1,764,876 212.31% -1,542,109 Abnormal GCI $0.030 0.19% 1,472,020 21.76% 3,266,719 48.30% -1,794,699 Abnormal MTU $0.140 2.74% 454,843 10.94% 2,981,033 71.70% -2,526,190 Abnormal QQQ $0.500 0.78% 27,860,987 43.34% 29,810,067 46.37% -1,949,080 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows PFE with 1,537,952 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.44000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
