February 23, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3633 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3960 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2209 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Jetblue Airways Corp (NASDAQ:JBLU), Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK), FREEPORT-MCMORAN COPPER (NYSE:FCX), WELLS FARGO & CO (NYSE:WFC), NII HOLDINGS INC (NASDAQ:NIHD), SAFEWAY INC (NYSE:SWY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     JBLU $-0.100 -1.88% 6,717,689 59.09% 4,651,296 40.91% 2,066,393 Abnormal
     NOK $-0.020 -0.36% 9,259,796 34.34% 7,628,851 28.29% 1,630,945 Abnormal
     FCX $-0.310 -0.70% 4,862,332 36.43% 3,434,110 25.73% 1,428,222 Abnormal
     WFC $-0.040 -0.14% 9,300,343 40.85% 5,858,076 25.73% 3,442,267 Abnormal
     NIHD $-2.300 -9.78% 6,122,936 54.27% 4,801,150 42.55% 1,321,786 Abnormal
     SWY $-1.890 -8.33% 7,976,037 34.23% 6,123,731 26.28% 1,852,306 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows JBLU with 2,066,393 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.10000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
