January 24, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3607 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3059 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2751 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK), NATIONAL BANK OF GREECE-ADR (NYSE:NBG), Interdigital Inc (NASDAQ:IDCC), NOKIA OYJ (OTC:NOKBF), RUBICON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:RBCN), KONINKLIJKE KPN NV - SP ADR (OTC:KKPNY). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NOK $-0.470 -8.20% 19,241,940 31.95% 23,409,753 38.87% -4,167,813 -88,677 NBG $-0.270 -10.00% 563,512 35.14% 601,104 37.48% -37,592 -1,392 IDCC $-8.550 -19.24% 5,485,283 48.83% 5,600,933 49.86% -115,650 -135 NOKBF $-0.475 -8.19% 77,042 9.28% 84,950 10.24% -7,908 -166 RBCN $-1.090 -8.24% 436,010 45.99% 501,658 52.91% -65,648 -602 KKPNY $-0.940 -8.33% 53,089 30.05% 77,556 43.90% -24,467 -260Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NOK with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.47000 and a Friction Factor of -88,677 shares. That means that it only took 88,677 more shares of selling than buying to move NOK lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
