On Thursday there were 3666 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3366 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2420 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Sirius XM Radio Inc (NASDAQ:SIRI), ALLOS THERAPEUTICS INC (NASDAQ:ALTH), WELLS FARGO & CO (NYSE:WFC), CHARMING SHOPPES (NASDAQ:CHRS), MICROCHIP TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MCHP), DCT INDUSTRIAL TRUST INC (NYSE:DCT). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction SIRI $-0.010 -0.23% 32,554,681 51.64% 30,484,999 48.36% 2,069,682 Abnormal ALTH $-0.080 -4.60% 1,466,942 88.33% 193,817 11.67% 1,273,125 Abnormal WFC $-0.090 -0.30% 10,707,835 32.40% 9,458,417 28.62% 1,249,418 Abnormal CHRS $-0.010 -0.20% 4,598,337 62.86% 2,762,831 37.77% 1,835,506 Abnormal MCHP $-0.070 -0.17% 3,637,120 66.00% 1,870,604 33.94% 1,766,516 Abnormal DCT $-0.050 -0.90% 5,808,015 63.26% 1,417,590 15.44% 4,390,425 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Thursday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows SIRI with 2,069,682 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.01000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
