January 13, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3662 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2207 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3663 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. JDA SOFTWARE GROUP INC (NASDAQ:JDAS), NEW YORK & CO (NYSE:NWY), Metabolix Inc (NASDAQ:MBLX), TESLA MOTORS INC (NASDAQ:TSLA), LIVEDEAL INC (NASDAQ:LIVE), Trius Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TSRX). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     JDAS $-4.230 -12.90% 921,606 47.20% 1,015,136 51.99% -93,530 -221
     NWY $-0.340 -11.30% 36,069 24.07% 58,423 38.99% -22,354 -657
     MBLX $-3.440 -57.43% 5,545,809 45.35% 6,682,056 54.64% -1,136,247 -3,303
     TSLA $-5.060 -17.91% 2,283,710 45.18% 2,548,610 50.42% -264,900 -524
     LIVE $-0.400 -11.75% 49,658 39.13% 76,444 60.24% -26,786 -670
     TSRX $-0.590 -9.85% 289,923 41.74% 404,464 58.23% -114,541 -1,941
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows JDAS with a dollar loss Friday of $-4.23000 and a Friction Factor of -221 shares. That means that it only took 221 more shares of selling than buying to move JDAS lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
