January 13, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3662 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2207 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3663 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. AMERICAN EXPRESS CO (NYSE:AXP), ALTRIA GROUP INC (NYSE:MO), NEKTAR THERAPEUTICS (NASDAQ:NKTR), ACXIOM CORP (NASDAQ:ACXM), MICROSOFT CORPORATION (NASDAQ:MSFT), SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY (NASDAQ:STX). Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction AXP $0.110 0.22% 1,338,547 24.14% 2,385,336 43.02% -1,046,789 Abnormal MO $0.140 0.49% 2,423,169 26.23% 3,797,318 41.10% -1,374,149 Abnormal NKTR $0.160 2.61% 1,694,143 38.81% 2,670,305 61.17% -976,162 Abnormal ACXM $0.220 1.67% 216,725 14.93% 1,234,710 85.07% -1,017,985 Abnormal MSFT $0.290 1.04% 28,235,739 44.77% 34,367,075 54.50% -6,131,336 Abnormal STX $0.170 0.88% 4,836,704 44.86% 5,909,280 54.81% -1,072,576 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Friday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows AXP with 1,046,789 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.11000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
