January 6, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Friday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Friday there were 3789 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2585 companies with positive Friction Factors and 3095 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Friday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. UNITED COMMUNITY BANKS/GA (NASDAQ:UCBI), TOREADOR RESOURCES CORP (NASDAQ:TRGL), Vical Inc (NASDAQ:VICL), INTEGRA LIFESCIENCES HOLDING (NASDAQ:IART), BIOMIMETIC THERAPEUTICS INC (NASDAQ:BMTI), Spreadtrum Communications Inc (NASDAQ:SPRD). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     UCBI $-0.750 -10.36% 175,351 45.95% 177,947 46.63% -2,596 -35
     TRGL $-0.500 -9.52% 154,912 40.77% 225,036 59.23% -70,124 -1,402
     VICL $-0.540 -12.52% 2,300,214 33.76% 4,510,878 66.20% -2,210,664 -40,938
     IART $-6.000 -19.67% 1,421,148 46.75% 1,543,182 50.77% -122,034 -203
     BMTI $-0.210 -9.50% 227,081 41.97% 313,435 57.93% -86,354 -4,112
     SPRD $-4.310 -22.38% 3,281,007 46.26% 3,770,577 53.17% -489,570 -1,136
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows UCBI with a dollar loss Friday of $-0.75000 and a Friction Factor of -35 shares. That means that it only took 35 more shares of selling than buying to move UCBI lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
