January 5, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3722 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3252 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2531 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bullish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices rose. RITE AID CORP (NYSE:RAD), WELLS FARGO & CO (NYSE:WFC), INTEL CORPORATION (NASDAQ:INTC), SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY (NASDAQ:STX), Ford Motor Co (NYSE:F), Mueller Water Products Inc (NYSE:MWA). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction RAD $0.040 3.20% 8,451,048 33.85% 10,389,812 41.61% -1,938,764 Abnormal WFC $0.420 1.47% 12,450,419 26.75% 14,872,846 31.96% -2,422,427 Abnormal INTC $0.240 0.96% 22,761,368 47.05% 25,462,229 52.63% -2,700,861 Abnormal STX $1.010 6.01% 12,954,088 46.23% 14,400,438 51.39% -1,446,350 Abnormal F $0.300 2.65% 19,605,032 29.35% 21,421,302 32.07% -1,816,270 Abnormal MWA $0.090 3.40% 1,829,236 27.44% 3,668,955 55.04% -1,839,719 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more selling than buying on Thursday and their stock prices rose. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows RAD with 1,938,764 greater shares of selling than buying (NetVol) and the stock price was up $0.04000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more selling than buying should cause prices to drop.
