January 5, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3722 companies with "abnormal" market making, 3252 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2531 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. ERSTE GROUP BANK AG - ADR (OTC:EBKDY), MORGANS HOTEL GROUP CO (NASDAQ:MHGC), Osiris Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:OSIR), ENERNOC, INC. (NASDAQ:ENOC), METROPCS COMMUNICATIONS INC (NYSE:PCS), GLOBE SPECIALTY METALS INC (NASDAQ:GSM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     EBKDY $-0.890 -9.85% 25,067 35.19% 33,454 46.96% -8,387 -94
     MHGC $-0.510 -8.20% 26,058 47.67% 28,609 52.33% -2,551 -50
     OSIR $-0.420 -8.47% 66,873 40.61% 97,002 58.91% -30,129 -717
     ENOC $-0.940 -8.32% 232,865 45.84% 274,748 54.08% -41,883 -446
     PCS $-0.770 -8.71% 4,744,789 32.24% 6,133,710 41.68% -1,388,921 -18,038
     GSM $-1.350 -9.72% 1,078,204 44.12% 1,348,526 55.18% -270,322 -2,002
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows EBKDY with a dollar loss Thursday of $-0.89000 and a Friction Factor of -94 shares. That means that it only took 94 more shares of selling than buying to move EBKDY lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
