January 4, 2012 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3609 companies with "abnormal" market making, 2728 companies with positive Friction Factors and 2975 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. Statoil ASA (NYSE:STO), EBAY INC (NASDAQ:EBAY), BOSTON SCIENTIFIC CORP (NYSE:BSX), Nokia Oyj (NYSE:NOK), REGIONS FINANCIAL CORP (NYSE:RF), Acme Packet Inc (NASDAQ:APKT). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     STO $-0.450 -1.68% 3,510,865 66.27% 737,366 13.92% 2,773,499 Abnormal
     EBAY $-1.240 -3.95% 17,074,046 52.15% 14,899,177 45.51% 2,174,869 Abnormal
     BSX $-0.050 -0.93% 8,659,107 35.65% 5,159,023 21.24% 3,500,084 Abnormal
     NOK $-0.050 -0.97% 9,399,979 42.32% 6,684,335 30.09% 2,715,644 Abnormal
     RF $-0.010 -0.23% 6,567,777 39.65% 5,240,481 31.64% 1,327,296 Abnormal
     APKT $-6.110 -19.21% 9,051,295 53.66% 7,675,742 45.50% 1,375,553 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows STO with 2,773,499 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.45000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
