December 20, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3554 companies with "abnormal" market making, 5042 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1876 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. SPECTRUM PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:SPPI), BARNES & NOBLE INC (NYSE:BKS), RESEARCH IN MOTION (NASDAQ:RIMM), Career Education Corp (NASDAQ:CECO), SOMAXON PHARMACEUTICALS INC (NASDAQ:SOMX), (OTC:HPCS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:

Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction
     SPPI $-0.120 -0.82% 1,307,027 57.08% 967,284 42.24% 339,743 Abnormal
     BKS $-0.160 -1.05% 976,087 55.91% 365,220 20.92% 610,867 Abnormal
     RIMM $-0.370 -2.87% 22,169,474 50.34% 21,837,731 49.59% 331,743 Abnormal
     CECO $-0.100 -1.57% 2,021,143 62.34% 1,220,851 37.66% 800,292 Abnormal
     SOMX $-0.020 -4.00% 1,117,876 83.99% 213,061 16.01% 904,815 Abnormal
     HPCS $-0.011 -36.67% 1,370,630 78.65% 372,000 21.35% 998,630 Abnormal
Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Tuesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.

For example, the chart above shows SPPI with 339,743 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.12000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
