December 20, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Tuesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Tuesday there were 3554 companies with "abnormal" market making, 5042 companies with positive Friction Factors and 1876 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Tuesday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. NEPTUNE TECH & BIORESSOURCES (NASDAQ:NEPT), TARGACEPT INC (NASDAQ:TRGT), Agria Corp (NYSE:GRO), CHINA SHEN ZHOU MINING & RES (AMEX:SHZ), Washington Mutual Ut (OTC:WAHUQ), FEDERAL HOME LOAN MORTGAGE CORPORATION (OTC:FMCKM). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction NEPT $-0.470 -19.03% 31,250 49.68% 31,552 50.16% -302 -6 TRGT $-2.770 -35.60% 3,612,766 48.88% 3,716,030 50.27% -103,264 -373 GRO $-0.140 -11.11% 51,940 25.66% 87,071 43.02% -35,131 -2,509 SHZ $-0.180 -10.59% 92,934 30.02% 123,054 39.75% -30,120 -1,673 WAHUQ $-0.560 -28.28% 50,922 19.28% 88,098 33.36% -37,176 -664 FMCKM $-0.320 -19.39% 86,800 4.36% 1,906,149 95.64% -1,819,349 -56,855Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows NEPT with a dollar loss Tuesday of $-0.47000 and a Friction Factor of -6 shares. That means that it only took 6 more shares of selling than buying to move NEPT lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
