December 14, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Wednesday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Wednesday there were 3558 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1718 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4704 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with Abnormal Price Friction (bearish bias) in their stock prices. This means that there was more buying than selling in the stocks and their stock prices dropped. CSX CORP (NYSE:CSX), ANALOG DEVICES INC (NYSE:ADI), MICRON TECHNOLOGY INC (NASDAQ:MU), EXXON MOBIL CORP (NYSE:XOM), ORACLE CORP (NASDAQ:ORCL), TELEPHONE AND DATA SYSTEMS (NYSE:TDS). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction CSX $-0.380 -1.86% 3,986,300 33.86% 3,075,406 26.13% 910,894 Abnormal ADI $-0.220 -0.65% 1,878,831 44.71% 915,423 21.79% 963,408 Abnormal MU $-0.160 -2.85% 19,012,813 51.62% 17,599,440 47.78% 1,413,373 Abnormal XOM $-1.090 -1.35% 6,889,936 28.92% 5,904,611 24.78% 985,325 Abnormal ORCL $-0.720 -2.34% 14,499,857 53.15% 12,692,481 46.52% 1,807,376 Abnormal TDS $-0.130 -0.53% 3,145,165 85.82% 217,268 5.93% 2,927,897 AbnormalAnalysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above had more buying than selling on Wednesday and their stock prices dropped. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows CSX with 910,894 greater shares of buying than selling (NetVol) and the stock price was down $-0.38000. This means the Market Makers were trading the stock in a way inconsistent with normal supply and demand (Economics 101); more buying than selling should cause prices to rise.
