December 8, 2011 / M2 PRESSWIRE / BUYINS.NET / www.buyins.net, announced today its proprietary Market Maker Friction Factor Report for Thursday. Since October 2008 market makers are now required to be on the bid as much as they are on the offer and for like amounts of stock. This Fair Market Making Requirement is designed to prevent market makers from manipulating stock prices. On Thursday there were 3501 companies with "abnormal" market making, 1283 companies with positive Friction Factors and 4994 companies with negative Friction Factors. Here is a list of the top companies with the largest percentage loss per share Thursday and low price friction (bearish). This means that there was more selling than buying in the stocks and their stock prices dropped faster with less Friction. BLYTH INC (NYSE:BTH), PINNACLE AIRLINES CORP (NASDAQ:PNCL), INVACARE CORP (NYSE:IVC), T.G.C. INDUSTRIES INC (NASDAQ:TGE), DEX ONE CORP (NYSE:DEXO), CELGENE CORP-RTS (NASDAQ:CELGZ). Market Maker Friction Factor is shown in the chart below:
Symbol Change Percent Buy Volume Buy %% Sell Volume Sell %% Net Volume Friction BTH $-10.170 -14.58% 113,351 26.16% 135,371 31.24% -22,020 -22 PNCL $-0.440 -23.03% 135,824 37.03% 227,153 61.93% -91,329 -2,076 IVC $-5.880 -28.57% 776,558 30.16% 869,024 33.75% -92,466 -157 TGE $-1.160 -13.52% 207,158 46.02% 236,844 52.62% -29,686 -256 DEXO $-0.220 -14.19% 571,419 28.46% 906,094 45.13% -334,675 -15,213 CELGZ $-0.200 -13.33% 111,757 25.85% 244,193 56.49% -132,436 -6,622Analysis of the Friction Factor chart above shows that each of the six stocks mentioned above have high net dollar losses (Change) and extremely low price friction in their stocks. The Friction Factor displays how many more shares of buying than selling are required to move a stock higher by one cent or how many more shares of selling than buying moves a stock lower by 1 cent.
For example, the chart above shows BTH with a dollar loss Thursday of $-10.17000 and a Friction Factor of -22 shares. That means that it only took 22 more shares of selling than buying to move BTH lower by one penny. This means the Market Makers are allowing the stock to drop quickly (low friction). The combination of low friction and negative market direction can drive prices lower faster than normal.
